netgear wireless router
Hey guys first post:)
A friend just got virgin broadband with the supplied netgear wireless router. I set it up for him and everything was working fine. After a day the router would no longer connect wirelessly only through an ethernet connection. So I uninstalled everything and the same thing happened would worked for a few hours then stopped. The guy in the call centre believed there was a problem with the IP address as there shouldn't be a 169 address I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem? The tech support guy thought there may have been a problem with winsock...thats what I've been told anyway, as I havn't had the chance to go round again and take a look at the router. Also does anyone know the default username and password to configure a netgear router? sorry for the rather large post. and any help would be apprciated. cheers, nico |

The old netgear routers they gave to ex telewest users had telewest/password as the default so at a guess, I'd say it's username: virginmedia password: password |
Re: netgear wireless router
Passwords as above are correct
Virgin Wireless setup First you need to fully uninstall the software from your computer, by first going to the system tray by the clock on desktop and exiting the wireless manager, then go to start > control panel >unistall programs> now unistall the wireless manager from here then exit . Next ensure the router is on and take a pen or a paperclip and look on the back of the router and you will see a small round hole big enough for the pen to go into press the reset button in this hole for approx 10 seconds then switch off the router and modem, reinsert the disk and follow the instructions to the letter. Ensure that you actually have the wireless switched on on your computer, do not assume it is on, the should be a switch. The other way is to delete all installation info as above and connect the router up direct to your laptop with the Ethernet cable and then switch the router on, open a browser page and put into the address bar 192.168.1.1 which will take you directly into the configuration pages of the router and just follow the links. I have included a link below for manual setup as above http://www.columbia.edu/acis/network...ear/index.html |

http://www.columbia.edu/acis/network...ear/index.html However, as that's for the US & may not refer to the version of the router you have, try downloading the manual via the link below: http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/WGR614.asp Identify the version as set out on that page... |

I'm not sure why, but sometimes the truncated link that you view in the post actually becomes the link!
