Overground installation?

Hi,

I just moved house and the front garden here is tiled. My landlord here is understandably unwilling to allow VM to dig them all up to run the cable. He said that in the past there have been issues with VirginMedia where they were unwilling to install their services because of the tiles. Is there any way to get them to do the installation overground?

I'm posting this message on a 1Mbit Tiscali connection. It's awful. I need my 20Mbit connection back :(

TIA,
Mike

Do you have a garden wall? as I have got mine is screwed to the dividing wall so as not to have it underground, I asked the Installation Engineer to leave some slack and attached it to the wall myself.

Only the side that faces the street is walled. The other two sides are metal fences.

Another possible answer is metal electrical conduit attached to the metal fence with the cable running through it or just using cable ties, sorry I cannot think of any other options.

Is there any way I can get in touch with somebody who works locally for VirginMedia (i.e. the area manager or an installation engineer). This is such a specific question, I don't fancy dealing with the overseas script-monkeys on the phone as they won't have the answer :(

I would just book it in, it is likely that the installers will be as reluctant as your landlord to up the tiles!
I am sure they will cable tie the drop cable to the fence for you.

Question.

Can't you lift up the tiles where the cable will be laid and put the tiles back afterwards?

From what he said to me, I gathered that they (Virgin) were unwilling to do the install at all.

I don't think the landlord wants the tiles touched at all.

If I get a VM engineer out and he can't do the install, would I get a refund?

If the install did not take place you would get a refund.
Just book the job and say nothing, when the guys come they will be more than happy to leave the cable on the tiles, it is less work for them.
You only have to read these boards to see how many people complain that their cables have been left loose!

Don't complicate things by asking for non standard installs, you will get no where. Just tell the guys on the day.

I've managed to get the landlord to let me do it. However, I'm only here for two months and then moving to somewhere which I don't think is in a cabled area. Will I have to commit to a new 12 month contract?

Refund

You won't get your first bill until after the installation's been completed.
