Flashing Virgin router

Hi, anyone that has the WGR614 will know the firmware has been flashed so the only features accessable are the password and wep/wpa options.

I was just wondering if the firmware was available elsewhere so that if i flash the firmware with the routers industry standard version, i can get the virgin media firmware on there if i ever need to return it etc.

Richard.

how do you intend on flashing the firmware?

usually the way you flash it will let you save the current one first

if you reflash it i would have thought it would void any warranty/support that they would offer

It will and AFAIK they are unflashable due to the firmware being locked in.

On the original pilot Telewest did I had 3 routers from and tried flashing nothing would work. 3rd line Netgear support couldn't do it either.

Just go and buy a WGR614, they aren't that expensive. Then you can flash your new one till your hearts content.

The firmware you get from netgears website.

OpenWRT firmware is not compatable. I bricked one trying.

I paid £35 for my Netgear WGR614v7 still using the firmware it came with and never had a problem.

That is extremely odd....

I just tapped the Ip into my browser, and the full Netgear firmware page appeared, not the horrific "red background with 2 fields to enter data".
Wonder what the hell happend there...

bear in mind the VM router remains the property of VM, we had someone asking about this over on cablehell and in the T&C it remains their property

Hey, if your talking about the red page that comes up with only the password and security details, and nothing else then you can change settings and stuff. All you have to do is go into your address bar and type in routerlogin.net

after that you will be prompted with a username and password, log in and hey presto you got all the settings of the router without having to flash. :D
