removing and replacing coax cable plug

I have a VM box in room A, with the broadband cable running through a small hole in the skirting board to room B. This is because originally the PC and cable modem were in room B. They've now moved to room A, right next to the VM box, so I want to stop the cable going through the wall to room B. What stops me just pulling the cable through the hole is the plug on the end (i.e. in room B) which is too big to go through the hole.

What do you suggest? Can I somehow remove the plug and then put it back on? Or should I cut the end off the cable and then put another plug on?

I am a technical guy but have no cabling knowledge or tools. Obviously happy to get bits and bobs from Maplin or wherever if needed.

Any help appreciated!

It can be dodgy to mess with the cable yourself. If the connection is poorly made, has a stray whisp of wire, etc then you can degrade your own and perhaps somebody elses service. Realistically the cable shouldn't be altered by the consumer, but Virgin Media's charge to send someone out and do it, is rather high.

The DIY connectors, especially the screw on type connectors are inadequate. The connectors VM use are all a crimp on type, I don't beleive these, or the tool to do the crimping are readily available in shops.

... so the best solution is to go to Maplins and buy a short length of satellite-grade coax with moulded F connectors already on both ends - then use that instead of the existing wire or any dodgy DIY job.

However, be aware that sometimes, altering cable lengths can upset your cable service, and if doing this results in a tech visit, you will then get charged to fix it. I'd say it's worth the risk, personally.

Thanks for the help everyone! Spent 9.99 at Maplin and I'm sorted.
