If it's for ADSL the maybe, depends if it detects the line settings OK as it's normally not manually configurable with Orange's firmware,,

But it's a definate NO with VM's cable service...Though I did use a livebox purely as a wireless access point (not as the router) when I first got cable before Orange inisted on it back :)

Kymmy,

Would you be able to help me set up Livebox router to be used as wireless router only connected to my Virgin media cable modem?

When I plug ethernet cable from modem into livebox, I can't connect my laptop to livebox wirelessly, it does assign right IP

... but if I connect my laptop to livebox with another ethernet cable, IPs are good and I have internet however it is not wireless any more :)

Answered in PM as you asked me the same in a PM...

But for all those who might want to do the same thing...

A livebox can;t be used directly to the modem as the modem is trying to give it's IP out to a connected device, best to use a router (when I typed the original post I had a software firewall/router that did all the NAT) and then use the LAN port to connect the livebox to one of the router LAN ports...that way NAT is taken care of by the router and the livebox acts purely as a bridge between the ethernet and wireless..

Thanks for your reply Kimmy. :)

In my case, it make sense to get a new router+wireless in one box, otherwise it get too complicated: virgin media modem-router-livebox.

Am I right?

The router livebox is handy if you have an old router and livebox lying around...

In the end I get a refurbished Netgear WGT624 108Mbps wireless router from eBay, works fine and was £21.99 delivered :D
