Are you seriously saying you can't see why bikers blocking all 3 lanes on a motorway, crawling a few mph would present as a safety risk?

I like the idea of charging the protesters for the agro they cause though. Would should I have to pay for it out of my taxes?

They should tell them to put their bills where the sun don't shine.

Perhaps the Police should also send bills to all the crummy night clubs who throw their drunken customers out on the streets to vomit and fight ? Our taxpaying workers have to pay for the Police to clean up the mess whilst the alcohol traders shut their doors and slope off with the profits whilst throwing the problems caused by its products out on the streets.

Mind you that wouldnt do as succesive bent Governments have been in the pay of the alcohol industry.

For large events the police do charge the venue(s) concerned.

Exactly, all football league clubs, county cricket teams and the top rugby clubs have to pay a hefty amount for policing at their venues.

A police state!! this phrase is bandied about almost on a whim nowadays, if you honestly believe the policing of a demo is tantamount to a police state seaofpepsicola, I can only assume you have made a mistake in your choice of words. A real police state would have been South Africa under the repressive apartheid system or Adolph Hitlers Nazi Germany, both of these dictatorships operated a brutal secret police, who were only answerable to the higher echelons of the regime. Unless I'm mistaken British citizens do not disappear from our streets to be tortured and later dumped dead in some back alley at the behest of some shadowy British Gestapo, that would be the behaviour of a police state, not policing a school demo.

In order to explain the meaning of the comment that has been so kindly removed by staff, this is for those that failed to comprehend its meaning and perhaps even misinterpreted it:

When you support a motion that can only result in a major erosion of statutory rights for the general public then it is those that support the motion who are the ones prepared to waive all their rights and everyone elses and should therefore be the ones who are willing take all the resulting consequences on everyone elses behalf.

I;m sure they do.I was thinkingmore of he detritus which floods onto the streets from pubs and cubs more so on Friday nights and weekend. I say aain, the alcohol traders take the profits, shut the doors and push the problem onto the streets for taxpayers to clean up via our hard pressed police service.

There are moves afoot, in Scotland anyway, to include this in the cost of their licence each year.
