Yes, awful! The 16th teenager to be murdered in London so far this year apparently... Mind you that information does come from a tabloid source so it's bound to be a pack of lies isn't it

Yeah.....of course.....because the Sun (and other tabloids) are well known for making up stories about 15 year old girls being stabbed to death - it's all part of their journalistic imperitive.....

Seriously :erm:

We're digressing of course but that seems to be the opinion of a few people around here who peddle the notion that you can't believe anything the tabloids write. Apparently their dodgy journalists spend their time making up all sorts of stuff and never let the truth get in the way.....

Well considering the news was all over the BBC 24 hours news yesterday then I guess the tabloids have basically got it right....;):p:

A male was arrested today in connection with the fatal stabbing.
Scotland Yard later said the man under arrest was in his 30s.
A police spokesman said: "We are keeping an open mind about motive at this early stage. However, it is not believed to be gang related."

So lets us not lump it in with the other gang related crimes just yet

Hmmmm..... I'm not sure the tabloids are renowned for taking their lead from the Beeb... ;)

Well IF they did they might gain some respect.;)

I suspect gaining respect from Beeb fans is rather lower on their list of priorities than selling copy and making a healthy profit.

yes tabloids make stuff up but usually there is a non-story for the basis, eg a "celebrity" is seen with drugs and the papers will say they're a drug addict, i'm pretty sure no paper would make deaths up

Agree - please don't take my initial comments re this murder case too seriously - they are accompanied by a . My point was made to illustrate the fact that, despite what some people around here claim, the tabloids publish a great deal of fact in addition to some of their less honest offerings. Most people are, I believe, able to discriminate between the two.

I think no one thinks the entire paper is full of lies, just that they do publish quite a lot. They also publish it among true stories, so while some aspects may be true, others are not. Hence it is difficult to discriminate between the two.

The papers spin, anaylsis, and language are also open to being used to impart the newspapers bias.

"Quite a lot" is rather vague don't you think? Take a look at any tabloid today and work out what percentage of its content is likely to be lies. Being biased and lying are two totally different things.

But why should I have to work out which is truth and which is lie?

Papers such as the tabloids demand transparency from everyone else so why shouldn't their reporting do the same?

Sadly we have to make that judgment in all sorts of things don't we? ... including when it comes to what our Government tells us and where our partners claim they've been all night. In an ideal world everyone would tell the truth, including newspapers but we don't live in one. I'm not here to defend tabloids BTW, just pointing out that those who automatically rely for their arguments on pathetic claims that the tabloids tell nothing but lies are either stupid or disingenuous. I've made my own decision on the subject, however, which is why I don't buy and tend not to read tabloids. It's easy you see.

Hopefully the two aren't linked though
