Leicester LE4 - Have I had my 4 meg to 10meg upgrade?

Hi folks,

Experiencing really rubbish speeds this morning, which I have to say is unusual for this area as I'm normally bang on 4meg.

http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/ shows 2195 down 475 up.

After a reset, my modem shows Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 10240000 bps Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 512000 bps, but no change in the above download speeds.

I have been downloading overnight but started after 9pm and finished about 7am so surely STM isn't in effect??

Any help in understanding this is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bod.

Your modems set for 10Mbps but that doesn;t mean you'll get 10Mps

Which modem is it? Also what's the congestion like in your area? Did you get 4Mbps originally...

Also if STM effected it then the upload speed would be about 150Kbps and not 475Kbps

Thanks for the reply. I've got the Ambit NTL:Home 120 modem and speed is normally a consistent 4meg.

What's the normal advertised upload speed for the 4Mbps?

It looks like Virgin are titting around with the service here. I've just run another test and got 7Mbps.

I believe the maximum upload speed is 374Kb/s on the 4Mb/s connection.

Web-based speed tests are unreliable for higher speed connections.
Recommend you try doing multiple file downloads for a more accurate result:
Start 2 simultaneous downloads from the VM demo games server plus 2 simultaneous downloads of Zen test files. That's four file downloads happening at once!
Now add up each of the four download speeds to get your accurate download rate.
If your UBR was only upgraded last night there's a chance that some engineering work is still being done on the UBR so you may not see a stable connection for another day (or two, given that today is Sunday).

If you can't get close to 10Mb/s, you could post the results of that test to VM's Tech Support newsgroup and request a replacement modem.

I've got 10mb in LE9, although my modem still says 4mb.

Have you unplugged the power lead to allow the 10Mb Docsis file to download.

I'm in LE3 and I've just reset my modem and there's no difference. :(

It's been unplugged a couple of times due to decorating the room the modem is in. The page can say monkey poo and as long as I'm getting 10mb I couldn't care less :D
