Re: belkin Router UPGRADE

Why would Virgin take anything to do with his router software? Did they supply the router? If not, then how do they know what software he has?

Re: belkin Router UPGRADE

There was an issue with Belkin router making repeated and continuous DHCP requests.
Belkin brought out an update for it.
It was affecting VM network.

Are you sure it was a legitimate email from Virgin, did it give a "recommended website" to download from? It sound suspicious.

I think you may need to contact Virgin and Belkin to ensure the validity of that email, because Virgin would be unlikely to know what router you have, and do not provide support for any 3rd party routers apart from that page about a compatibility issue with one Belkin router.

Check your PC for Spyware as well.

They knew what router he had as it was crashing the UBR's hence the email to upgrade the firmware.

They're being nice :) - there's a known issue with some Belkin routers (as detailed already in this thread), which causes them to fully release, and fully renew their IP address every 22 seconds.

This would cause the PC's behind it to lose connectivity for about half a second every 22 seconds - which can cause all sorts of oddities, poor download speeds, hanging you tube videos every 22 seconds! That sort of thing.

To the user it could look like Virgins service is rubbish, whereas in actual fact, its the router thats broken and hurting the service!

Adam.

Re: belkin Router UPGRADE

just to advise you guys ...... this problem occurs only on the belkin f5d7230 version7000. and the problem only occurs if you plug the belkin router behind the VM modem without changing any configuration on the belkin router.!!!!

the belkin router renews its ip adress every 25 secs to be precise.

if anybody would have tried to amend anything on the belkin setup , like applying a security key, changing the name of the ssid etc. the problem would have not occurred.

makes you think hey . how many people are there that connect a router and don't even configure wireless security on it.:-)

anyway yes a new firmware was released by belkin and that solves the problem . so the problem is not the hardware its the firmware of the device.

so my suggestion to you gulf4uk is to either set an wireless encryption on your router ( so that you stop the whole neighborhood enjoying your internet) or download the latest firmware from the belkin website and apply it.

now how I know these things remains a mystery
