Sudden loss of Router Function

Folks,

My network consists of a Linksys WRT54GS v1.1 connected to an NTL250 modem.

Up until last night / this morning all was well on the network. This morning however I cannot get the router to talk to the modem and I am getting a touch frustrated to say the least!

I can direct link to the modem and access the setup page (192.168.100.1)
I can direct link to the router's 4 RJ45 connections (192.168.1.1)

When I connect the router to the modem using the same cable it's been using for the past year or so, I can no longer access the modem, only the router. Changing the cable brings no joy with the three I've used.

When the cable is connected the 'enet' light is lit on the modem and the router's internet light is on to indicate the connection is there.

The modem and the router have been power cycled several times and the router has been reset several times.

Either the router WAN port has decided to expire overnight or I am doing something very silly and not seeing the obvious trick which will see me good.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Go into the config page of the router.
Can you see a VM IP address in there?

Mine shows

Internet Port
MAC Address 00:00:00:00:00:00 (Changed)
IP Address 82.XX.X.XXX (Blanked out but is the ip assigned by VM)
DHCP DHCPClient
IP Subnet Mask 255.255.248.0
Domain Name Server
194.168.4.100
194.168.8.100

This will at least give you somewhere to start.

I have the same modem and router, to get a proper connection I have to power up the modem first, once the 'enet' 'sync' and 'ready' LED's are lit only then do I power up the router and then the computer. Any other way and I can't connect.

Thanks for the responses folks!

DW, your suggestion worked... though why is beyond me as I'm pretty certain I've never had to hook up in sequence before... but if it works... it works!

Cheers!

It started happening when my old Terjon modem was replaced last week, up to that time it didn't matter in which order they started up. Glad it's sorted for you.
