Re: Call for focus on ethnic tensions
but how do you make some thing like this work ?
what a person says on the street and behind closed doors. could be total opposites. we/our government have spent to much time trying to make others happy and not enough time listening too those already here. :( |
Re: Call for focus on ethnic tensions
In my experience what people are prepared to say publically and what they will say privately are very different and certainly point to big problems that seem to be starting to get some attention. Until we throw the "racist" term around less i doubt many people will actually say what they truly feel.

Lets face it this is just another headline grabbing attempt to justify some departments existence. No actual substance to it, no plans or actions. Just some wooly ideas for people to work on. |

More than half the cars in certain should not be on the roads and yet the Police dare not do anything about this in case they do spark a riot. They dare not conduct stop and search in areas other than the leafy suburbs. Bradford is a no-go area for many residents and certainly for the Police. |
Re: Call for focus on ethnic tensions
Any chance of some non BNP related proof to your assertions Trevor please or are you just sounding off again ???.

Re: Call for focus on ethnic tensions
Derek i wasn't baiting i was just asking for something more then BNP propaganda in relation to what Trevor was saying. Trevor i have the joy of living near Leicester and i know how bad racial tensions are as i see it very often in that city. I agree with you to a point Trevor that the truth in this country is not being told but i wouldn't go as far as some groups do on the matter. I believe we have a situation where people are hoping for the best while ignoring a growing sense of unrest amongst many in the country regarding the matter of race and immigration amongst other matters.
What i don't want to see is trouble on the streets or one group hating another i do think it is possible for different people from different backgrounds to live together but i think it needs better handling then the slapdash "it looks and sounds good so it will be good" approach that has been infesting the UK for the last 30 years. We need to learn about each others cultures and also learn to respect them and understand having them does not degrade our own culture but that takes time and one government wouldn't be able to claim credit for it so unlikely to happen in the UK anytime soon. I also think that people focus their discontent on race and immigration because it has something easy to identify and direct their discontent on rather then the many many other issues that are angering people all over the UK such as rising food and energy costs the feeling we have a government that doesn't give a damn or live on the same planet as we do. |

On the other hand, one guy who often makes racist remarks couldn't stop talking to her, being friendly and cuddling her, but I dare not tell her. I took a black girlfriend in there about 4-5 years ago, and one guy has not spoken to me since. There are pubs in my town that I would not take my previous Asian gf in, and I would not take a black gf in. |
Re: Call for focus on ethnic tensions
where i live there is next warehouse/distribution center mostly staffed by agency workers. 99% ethnic(black) workers from the eastend.
we have a small rural station which is manned most of the time. at 4oclock each day the workers from next leave for home. two weeks ago the station was targeted by c2c for a ticket check ok if you have a ticket if not then you are asked to buy one before you can enter the station. by 4.30pm we had a small riot at the station and my road was blocked off by police a police van was turned over policeman where hurt trains stopped running. next week the local paper was full of comments about racist police action. and this from people that if they just bought a ticket would have had no trouble with the police what so ever. you can't win. |
