can ping google but it does not open
Hi,
I setup a new wireless router that connects to the my pc via cable. After I set up the router I tried to connect to the google (via cable not wireless) but all that happened was I got the following message in the status bar even though vista told me I am connected to the internet in the network and sharing center : Website found waiting for reply (and the site never opened) I tried to ping google and had no problem with this. Next I tried to connect to my ftp server at work and it worked fine. I can also copy files via PC's without any problem. Oh need to mention I am running Vista Ultimate X64. Well I needed to connect to the net to try and get some help so I plugged my old router in to a different network port and it got me online immediately. I also created a bridge so the other pc's can connect to the net wirelessly using the new router (they get online perfectly). This is fine for a temporarly fix but I would really like to fix the problem can anyone give me some advice please. I need to also mention when I had the internet line on the new router I could connect wireless via my XP based laptop (the router is supposed to be Vista compatable). The new router is : Belkin G+mimo modem router model : f5d9630-4 |
Re: can ping google but it does not open
It sounds like DNS isn't set up correctly if you can ping but cant get the page.
Try pinging google and then using its IP address in the browser to get to the site. eg ... If this works then its definitely DNS settings Check your PC has some DNS settings by opening a command prompt and typing Code:
ipconfig /all Check other websites work (ie is google the only one that isn't working?) |

Thanks for the reply.
I got it to work. The MTU my isp gave me was wrong. I copied a friend of mines that has the same isp and it seems to work perfectly. |
