Where to get cable extension for VM box
Hi
I need to move my TV location. The current cable to the V+Box is not long enough. I've spoken to VM to ask which cable to buy and was told it would cost me £75 to have an engineer come here! All I need is to know what type of cable extension to buy and where! So, I would really appreciate if some kind soul out there has a tip or an answer! Thanks!!! CFF |
Re: Where to get cable extension for VM box
I don't really think you can just "buy" an extension to move the tv box.
Yep its possible to do yourself, but you might mess things up accidentally. I got way loads more cable to the V+ and to the modem than I would need to move it anywhere in the house, big loops of the stuff behind the units. Maybe some tech will know how to call up and ask the right question to get it moved properly without such a charge. kind regards |

Re: Where to get cable extension for VM box
buy some of this: http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?...No=275&doy=3m5 & these: http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?...=10447&doy=3m5 & look here for how to correctly fit it: http://www.uk-satellite-tv.co.uk/tec...lp_154117.html
Fitting the F connectors The connectors are easily fitted and require no special tools. Prepare the ends of the cable by removing about an inch of the outer sheath. Tear off the copper screen, twist the braid together and pull it back so it is pointing away from the prepared end of the cable. Remove all but about an eighth of an inch of the inner insulation. Screw the knurled end of the connector over the outer sheath of the cable and over the braid wire. Keep screwing the connector until the inner insulation is located as far as it will go against the inside of the connector. Make absolutely sure that the inner solid copper conductor is not in contact with the braid screen or with any part of the connector. Cut the inner copper wire so that only an eighth of an inch protrudes beyond the end of the connector. (btw although its on about satellite tv the principle is the same for fitting f plugs) |

Re: Where to get cable extension for VM box
Hi
Thanks very much for all your kind answers. I don't have a Maplin nearby and needed the solution fairly quickly. I got similar cable as suggested by Toto, in Homebase and it has done the trick beautifully! A mere £5.99 as opposed to £75 for a call out engineer from VM - why couldn't they have been as helpful??? Anything for extracting money from customers who don't know any better I suppose!!! Cheers again! |

As for the person that did not help you did you even consider prehaps they did not have any knowledge to help just as you did not have? |
