help with connections please

Before I start I would like to point out that I normally have no trouble with stuff like this, but I am stumped this time.

My parents have the following:

1 TV with 1 scart and aerial connection
1 vcr with an aerial in, an aerial out and 1 scart socket
1 freeview box with an aerial in and an aerial out and 2 scart sockets
1 dvd player with 1 scart socket
1 scart splitter with 3 'in' and 1 'out'

how the h*ll do I connect these up. I have tried every which way but whatever way, 1 of them doesn't work properly. I can't have the video switched on with the freeview or the dvd which means that they can't record channel 5 or kids programs for their grand children (am I tugging enough heart strings?!!)
The scart splitter is not a switched one is this the problem?

Re: help with connections please

Try this (I think!)

Aerial lead - Freeview box
Freeview aerial out - VCR aerial in (only needed if you want to record analog channels)
VCR aerial out - TV aerial in (only needed if you want to watch analog channels on TV)
(or just go Freeview aerial out - TV to miss out the VCR)

Freeview "TV" scart - scart splitter
Freeview "VCR" scart - VCR

VCR scart - scart splitter

DVD scart - scart splitter

Scart splitter - TV

It would be worth getting a switched Scart splitter to stop any interference:
