Google earth latest update problems

For those of you using google earth, their latest update Version 4.3 Beta cause problems on both of my computers. Google earth was jerky in its movments and has become so slow that it was unusable. I had to revert to my 4.2 version then it was all right again. My computers are Acer and HP. Might not happen to you but then it might.

Why do you need to run google earth when you can get the maps on the google site?

Version 4.3 beta also breaks the Linux version.
On my Fedora 7 system, using the standard video drivers it bombs out during initialisation, and using the Livna ATI drivers is crashes X completely. :(

Just tried to download Google Earth version 5 and my AV dynamic virus protection went ballistic, beeping like mad, reporting a W32/Downloader virus that it could not disinfect.

Google Earth is a lot more functional than the maps website.

Google Earths streetview in the US cities is amazing, was using it last month tracking down where the camera would have been that caught the hudson plane crash.. Also it's very handy for a number of things like detailed local info, pictures and even KML files..

BUT I do also use MS live earth due to the Birdseye feature that tends to be a lot more upto date than the normal google/live maps

Not done the update yet but will see if there's any probs after I do

No problems with Eset Smart Security, apart from the normal warning that some files have changed.

My AV reports an infected file GOOGLE_UPDATER[1].exe

Says the infection is W32/MalwarehiderPatced-based!Maximus

I have set it to delete rather than disinfect and it reports that it has overwritten and deleted the file.

TBH, I suspect a false positive. ;)

Jim.

Does much more than the web site. For a start, I use the Ruler tool to measure distances on routes I use. And it has star maps :)

And the latest version of google earth now goes a step further - underwater!

Got to admit, the latest is a little sluggish here, but... I only use it for when there are weather events on the cards :D
