Sky broadband

Can anyone give me any feedback on Sky broadband please? I am always scepital of broadband suppliers other than BT but as we have Sky tv, we have been offered a cheaper monthly broadband cost.
Many thanks.

You should take a look there if you want other sky users feedback on the product.

I used to work for Sky BBand in the old Tier 2 dept before it merged with Tier 3.In the beginning the technical support was crap.BT were often late in provisioning lines & we had 2 types of line to support,Offnet(connect pack) & onnet(base to max pack) meaning we had to use 2 different repair system's.
It's generally a good service,my uncle has it & has had no probems apart from the e-mail which was well buggered at the start.
UK technical support is mainy based in Belfast & londonderry as well as Scotland & Shepton in England & is open between 0800Hrs to 2300Hrs over 7 days.Outside those hours it's based in Lipa,Phillapines. Then the fun begins as they (Lipa) are fecking USELESS!!!!
We used to get more escallation calls from that one center than all the UK ones combined!

Re: Sky broadband

I have the free 2 meg as only use for browsing hard core dwarf porn sites and I get a constant 1.76 through wireless router/modem..

Only had to call tech support once and was pretty crap but only as far as getting to speak to 2nd line..

Billing not an issue as free but generally sky are very good, never had an issue with any service.

I cant fault them really and its cheap if you have other services

Re: Sky broadband

Aye, if you have a problem call before 2230/2300 as you are more likely to hit UK based staff and more likely to not need to call back again ;) Aside from that the service is normally rock solid, they are getting better on the support side and are looking to keep improving service as much as possible to the customers.

You might not be be to get 13Mb yourself tho.
Use this to see what speed you can get.(It's what they use at Sky.)

The whole "you may not get the full speed on ADSL" argument that VM had going for them, is rubbish now that they've introduced STM

Well that's a crock of crap:-

Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial test on your line indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a line rate up to 2Mbps.

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a potential ADSL Max broadband line rate of 6Mbps up to 8Mbps.
LOL!

Re: Sky broadband

Router drops out now and again, but nothing major. Get between 11 and 16Mbps depending on how it feels when it connects, probably 14Mbps on average.

Re: Sky broadband

Out of a limited sample of friends, I think I'd rate Sky BB as "best of the cheap broadbands", assuming you have the Sky service anyway.

The quota on the free one is only fit for dailup replacement. The £5 extra, up to 8Mbit compares reasonable with Talktalk's phone/BB lineup.
