One website not working via router but is via Modem
I look after a simple, local union website, but last 24hrs I have not been able to access the site at all, tried on 3 different laptops and one PC and no joy
the wired/wireless network all runs through a Linksys WRT54GS, a neighbour (not on virginmedia) can get on the website, I phoned a friend who lives around 3 miles away and he also can get on. Tried setting up a proxy configuration through firefox and IE7,when proxy enabled, Bingo can get straight on the website, BUT then whenever i restart firefox a "Virginmedia page" takes over my homepage with instructions to disable the proxy....also with the proxy configured i still cant use the software i use to update the website (website X5) So i attached laptop via Ethernet cable directly to the cable modem, turned off the wireless on laptop, also turned off the proxy configuration, and after i open a browser I can get straight onto the website and run the software and update the website so by a process of elimination its got to be the Linksys WRT54GS, no settings have been changed for ages so cannot understand why i cannot access the website when am wireless (unless proxy enabled) but can when cut out the router and attach directly to VM Modem have also re-booted VM Modem and re-set the router several times but made no difference so i am able to get to website and update but not without hassle so if anyone is able to shed any light on my problem would be greatfull |
Re: One website not working via router but is via Modem
Either the IP that the router has picked up from the VM network has been banned by the website (change the WAN side mac address on the router to get a different IP), the router's firewall or port forwarding rules are wrong, or the router isn't resolving the dns names correctly.

" (change the WAN side mac address on the router to get a different IP)" contacted the guys hosting the website they checked and could so no problems with the site the routers firewall setting and port forwarding rules haven't been changed for months and seems strange that it is the only website i cannot open in any browser Same with router resolving dns names correctly, is that the sort of thing that can happen with one website, wouldn't it be more likely to show up with problems browsing other sites May go through router settings tomorrow and take some screenshots of settings, etc and do a factory re-set...see if that resolves problem |

downloaded and re-flashed my firmware then took back to factory settings now working a treat
thanks |
