Best Wi-fi set up?

Hello everyone, really hope you can help.

We currently pay for our phoneline/cable/internet all from different providers and would like to get faster broadband and a better/cheaper service.

We would also like to upgrade our router (for faster, more reliable internet) and to start using VoIP.

Ok, so a rundown on our set-up at the moment.

- Internet Service Provider = Zen (£25 per month)
- Zen ADSL through our phone line provided by BT (£11 per month)
- Virgin TV (Cable) (L package, £11 per month)
- Seperate office phone line (Virgin, £11 per month)
- Netgear, Wireless ADSL modem gateway DG824M
- We are running 4 laptops, an internet radio (Roberts WM-201) and a wireless printer off this.
- We live in a tall house and our road has cable.

Basically the internet is constantly going down and the radio is constantly buffering. We were thinking if we had a decent broadband connection and faster speeds we could switch to VoIP because it would be a lot cheaper? The laptops are often in use at the same time, and a lot of downloading streaming etc goes on.

We need a set-up that can cope! What do you guys (and girls!) recommend?

Other questions:

Is there a good package where we can just use one provider (ie. save in cost)?
An ISP that provides fast, unlimited downloads?
A router that is fast, secure, up to date, can use VoIP?
Recommended VoIP phones? Expensive?
Could we use our old router as a booster?

Sorry this post is a bit of an essay, it's all a bit of a minefield. Really hope you can help.

Rob.

Re: Best Wi-fi set up?

:welcome: what I would do personally is ask around to find out if any of your neighbours has Virgin media for their net and phone and if they do see how they get on with it and how good their net speeds are. If they are good why not look at getting a package off VM.
