New Mercedes diesel 4x4 takes the ...
urea and uses it to clean it's exhaust...
True. Diesel engines emit very low amounts of Carbon, but emit high amounts of nitrogen oxide, which is apparently very nasty.. So, Mercedes have come up with a novel solution. A system which squirts an "aqueous urea solution" into the exhaust tract. This solution converts the Nitrogen Oxide into ammonia. A Catalytic Converter then breaks the ammonia down to nitrogen and water. The system takes the solution from a 28 litre tank, which Mercedes say should last for 28,000 km, and the refilling (as the article says) "will be done by technicians during routine servicing.". Quite.. :D http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/03...tech_goes_usa/ |
Re: New Mercedes diesel 4x4 takes the ...
I'm going to have to apologise to a friend, now - we were discussing bio-diesel & she mentioned hearing about running a engine using sheep urine & we all laughed at her ;)
- Does this mean that relieving oneself in someone's fuel tank may now become excusable as being good for the environment? ;) |
Re: New Mercedes diesel 4x4 takes the ...

An aqueous urea solution... does this mean it's been extracted from someone who's been drinking Budweiser?
