Women in Saudi Arabia.

When I first heard the story of girls dying in a Saudi school because the "mutawwain" [ the religious police] wouldn't let school-girls escape a burning building, because they were not properly attired in the customary cover everything black robes, I was to say the least sceptical. But to my horror I came across this article.

If this was any other country, would we have invited their head of state to stay at Buckingham Palace? I very much doubt it.:td:

March 15, 2002.
King Fahd dismissed the head of the school for lack of fire safety, over crowding, not enough fire exits and extinquishers.
According to Prince Nayef, only 2 members of the mutaween attended to "protect" the girls, but personally I'd take that bit with a pinch of salt.
