wrt54gs WPA
hey guys, im thinking of switching to WPA from WEP, i just wanted to know how to set a password on my wireless connection

Re: wrt54gs WPA
You need to go to the router home page 192.168.1.1 and select wireless security to change the password.
If you have not changed the routers password to log in, the defaults are admin and admin. |
Re: wrt54gs WPA
whats WPA personal and WPA enterprise?
and below i must add a WPA shared key, whats that? |
Re: wrt54gs WPA
WPA Enterprise is the version intended for use in large organisations. To use it you need to set up a separate authentication server tied into your local network-so this certainly isn't meant for home users. What you need is WPA Personal-setting it up is similar to WEP in that you need to enter a password both in the router setup and on the client workstations. This password can be as long and complicated as you like-the longer the better and it uses this password to encrypt and decrypt the data traffic.
Now depending on the type of router, you may also be offered further encryption options called TKIP and AES. AES is the more secure method but not all client systems will support it properly, so TKIP will probably be the better option. |
