ScotDSL.com**DONT DO IT**

I registered late in January for the fantastic deal that Scotdsl offered of...

Unlimited bandwidth (No download limits)
No caps
No restrictions
No port throttling
No fair usage policy.

I get 1 month into the contract before i received an email advising that i would be charged £2 per additional gb over the maximum of 15gb per month

WTH, talk about blatant false advertising.....they wait till i have exceded the 15gb limit by an extra 40gb and now intend to charge me just under £100 for one month internet usage.

It appears that shortly after i signed up for the package they decided to change my package to alow for this new bandwidth cap but didnt bother to tell me.

My guess is its going to cost me more than £100 to pay for the month and to cancel my package.

My advise to anyone is to stay away from this company as what you see is not what you get with them and you wont know till you are in a lot of debt.

They can't change your Ts&Cs without telling them first. Get them to prove that they told you about these changes in advance. Check with CAB for your full rights but if they didn't tell you about the change in tarriff that they haven't got a leg to stand on.

Sounds like a case of misselling to me

Yeah i have been emailing customer services all morning. The terms and conditions were amended early in February which was 2 weeks after my contract start date.

Not sure its possible to prove that they didnt contact me about the changes as all i have is my word against theirs that i never received an email

I even pointed out that their website still have the details stating no download limits but all i got from that is that they are currently in the process of amending the website, something that they should have done before they changed the package meaning that anyone who comes accross that are still reading that they will receive unlimited unless they read their newly created T&C's carefuly.

Having a quick look through their website doesn't show any mention of the cap or pay per GB. In fact right now they show.

Quote:

* Download speed up to 8Mb
* Upload speed up to 448Kb
* Free connection and migration
* Unlimited bandwidth (No download limits)
* No caps
* No restrictions

* No port throttling
* No fair usage policy
* No minimum contract
* 10 email addresses
* Quick and easy to install
* Easy monthly payments. No hidden extras.

We are proud to offer superfast 8Mb broadband with no download limits for an incredible £15.95 per month. In fact, we don't even have a fair usage policy, so it is a truly unlimited service. I
If thats what their website is showing just now I'd be on the phone to them wanting to know exactly what is going on.

Re: ScotDSL.com**DONT DO IT**

They basicaly just advised me that they are changing the website.

My current bandwidth usage for the month so far is at 50gb (hense the reason i choose an unlimited) although now they are telling me that my unbilled maximum is 15gb meaning that by the time my months contract is up i will have exceeded their limit by around 40gb

they also advised that each addition gb will be charge at £2 unless i buy a pre paid block of either 10gb, 20gb, 30,gb and so on.

So including the cost of the months's unbilled at £16 i need to pay them an extra £80 or buy the 40gb block at a cost of £48

this is taking me to £64 for one months internet usage because i have to buy the extra bandwidth block.

I have requested they cancell my account at the earliest date which had better be within 7 days and bet they will find some way to charge me even more money for doing that....my guess is they will bypass the part of the website thats states "No minimum contract" and charge me a connection charge as opposed to a cancellation charge

I'll keep you updated though cause i am concerned that i might not be the only fool to believe that "to good to be true" can actualy be true.

if you have a DD cancel it if they send you a bill tell them to take you to court.
Print all documents you have that say its unlimited and keep them safe. Inform them you will be informing OFCOM and trading standards and forward all the details to both of these organisations

Good advise man, thank you.

Anything to get out of paying for that additional bandwidth usage....

Never did get round to setting up a DD account though so they will bill my credit card at month end :-(

In their terms and conditions is email accepted as a form of notice of changes to contract? If not they have to write to you. Do you have the Ts & Cs from when you first signed up. If so the onus will be on them to show they did give you proper notice of the changes.

I'll have a look through the T&C's but the copy i had prior to them changing in February reside on a dead hard drive on my PC table :-(.

I have noticed however the link to the terms and conditions from the website accessable to non customers seems to be broken, my guess for that is they dont want people to see the new price plans in the hope that they still catch dumb**** like me out.

"report your card missing and get a new one"

Sounds like a good idea, i rarely use the thing anyway :-)

Re: ScotDSL.com**DONT DO IT**

Ok so i log's into the customer area and finds the little link for cancelling my account and get the message stating that i am within contract and cannot cancell my account until after the 8th of April

hmm, another thing that differs from their website and FAQ which states i could cancel at any time.

This just gets better and better, thankfuly my router is switched off. although i now have to wait till the 8th of April to tell them i want to cancel and gawd knows how long it will take for them to actualy action this, meaning i could potentialy be without my internet now for a month.

I am defenately going to trading standards and OFCOM cause this is just plain rediculous and a blatant attempt at bleeding my wallet dry.

The dumb thing is, their actualy service is fantastic... so much better than Virgin was....Virgin however just told me it wasnt possible to get speeds above 2 mg because my line didnt support it whereass in the time i have been with these clowns i have been receiving a steady 3mg peak and 4.5 offpeak. :( its a shame its come to this cause i was really happy......but whoever said that money cant buy happiness....it just costs A LOT of money.

Re: ScotDSL.com**DONT DO IT**

Don't wait till the 8th August. Send a recorded deilivery letter now, stating you are cancelling with immediate effect due to their sharp practices of changing the terms of service to which you signed.

Re: ScotDSL.com**DONT DO IT**

Havent been able to post for the last 4 days because after i made my innitial complaint about the contract my internet has been unusable.

contacted their tech support helpline who kindly explained that someone from their customer support team has capped my speed due to excessive downloading, even though my usage sits at 50gb and i purchased a £48 additional 40gb taking me to 55gb...so i have paid for more than i have used and yet they cap my speed, something else that theres packages details they dont do.

I am really frustrated now and their customer support team were off during the bank holidays so will have to call them today for an explenation....

it wont be pretty i can assure them of that.
