Sky broadband

Installing a HP thin client into a home with Sky Broadband, using the telephone socket upstairs we are getting no internet connection.

Does it matter what phone socket we use for the connection, or is it only valid through the main socket downstairs?

It will work on both as long as the line is good, have you tried it in the master socket and have you made sure that filters are in the correct place? For testing purposes I would try taking everything off the line and just having a filter plugged directly into the socket with the router plugged into it. If that works do the same on the extension and see what happens.

As Paul has said, it will work on any socket...but the socket needs a filter on it.

I assume you have ensured any other ADSL device has been disconnected from any extensions throughout the property? Only one modem can be attached at a time.

Whilst a standard phone extension will support ADSL, be careful that the extension hasn't been run from the phone filtered side of another socket.

Well at least you can get through to SkyBB tech support and they will tell you the truth if there is an area issue.

It took 3 phone calls with me being passed between agents each time.

Sky put me on call back as the fault has been bumped up to a higher lvl of support. Guess what, they didnt ring like they said they would!

If it was in Bentilee, some phone lines to there seem to have a fault that gives very poor broadband service, from Sky.My daughter gave up and went back to cable , for broadband. The rest of her Sky service works ok, the broadband was utter rubbish, even connected to the master socket.

Depending on what the fault is you may find your ticket is still open and Sky are waiting on BT doing something.
