does this look ok for a 20mbs line with no line attenuators using a 255 modem?

I have a 3db and a 6db attenuator sitting here should i add one to the modem or leave it?

Your levels are perfect. Do not add anything to your line.

Downstream is a bit high, but if you have no issues then I wouldn't worry about it.

Thank god i took the attenuators off my speed seems a little better.

Hello

Just took another reading after putting in my own coax extension around the building direct from the virgin media box outside my house 20 metre extension.
modem attached to new extension.

Do the stats still look ok?

Old stats:
Downstream Receive Power Level : 0.9 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 39.9 dB

New stats:
Downstream Receive Power Level : -2.6 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 39.5 dB

@MoaningMags -- could you confirm that the figures for signal levels in Robin Walker's 'Cable Modem Troubleshooting Tips' are accurate to use as a guide?

Is there a better resource to point users towards?

I've never used the Robin Walker guide. On having a quick look it appears mostly ex-ntl, I'm clueless for the most part about that side. Acceptable ranges of power levels have changed at least twice in the last 3 years. When I started it was -4 to +4, now they tell us -12 to +12.

I'd agree that Annie's Broadband FAQ is certainly an excellent resource, probably the most useful available.
But the one area that she neglects is signal level guidelines...
