Delight For The Coal Industry
I have read in todays Daily Mirror, that UK Coal are taking on experienced miners to open up a seam in Daw Mill, Yorks, and about time as well, l said in a thread several weeks ago, that this is what should be done years ago, the coal industry will provide energy for this country, and it will also provide much needed jobs and secruity for there families, where ever these mines are found, all miners are proud people, and before people start saying that the air will be polluted by coal, don't forget we import coal from abroad still, after all these years, coal can provide loads of things, coal for power stations, for OAPs for coal fire, to save on electricty and gas the ways are endless.:)

I'm not convinced that we could set it all up again, or for how long. |

Let's hope it's done well, and that they don't mess this batch of miners up... |

Love the feeling of sitting next to an open coal fire, much much nicer than a gas fire for example, or worse, an electric "fire".
Yes indeed. Logs are quite nice too. ---------- Post added at 23:08 ---------- Previous post was at 23:04 ---------- Quote:

I'm happy to learn :) I'm keen on renewable sources of power. |
Re: Delight For The Coal Industry
I've applied for a position at Daw Mill, they pay you expenses for travelling, you work 3x12 hour shifts then you get 3 days off then back to 3x12. Basic is £500 per week plus overtime, OTE £45,000. I'll have some of that if you don't mind.
2 mothballed mines are about to be re-opended round here due to increased demand for coal. Thatcher was right to close the mines saying there wasn't the demand for coal anymore. |

This is good news, there's loads of coal reserves in the UK, and with the government recently announcing new coal fired power stations it just may be viable to re-open some of them.

Going back to coal is a step backwards but having said that if it creates jobs and provides security for family's hell it gets my vote. I just hope that if we do have the birth of a new mining industry it doen't allow itself to ever have a union like the NUM again that did more to damage the miner's then it did to help.
