Prescott and co-community vandals

Take a look at this picture...

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/dooper7...athfinder.html

This is just a small section of north Manchester. just one street. In this area there are maybe a dozen or more streets just like it. Perfectly serviceable terraced housing boarded up and awaiting demolition under the incompetent Prescotts Pathfinder scheme.

His bright idea was to squander millions of pounds of YOUR money to clear areas of terraced housing in order to build new homes.

In reality all that is happening is that people who own these properties are having them forcibly compulsorily purchased, they are paid a pittance, private developers rip them down, build nice new houses on the land and sell them for small fortunes at over inflated prices.

It is plain theft. The original home owners have their homes stolen and delivered into the hands of developers to generate huge profits.

and yet structurely ,there is little wrong with these homes. They would take comparatively little investment to modernise.

There probably isn't anything wrong with them, you're most probably right.

As for modernisation, those houses look exactly like the huge row of terraced house where i used to live, nothing wrong with them really. Few grand for central heating and double glazing and they'd be upto "modern" standards easily. Much cheaper than tearing them down and rebuilding them.

To be honest, i tend to prefer some older housing these days, it just feels like it has more character opposed to the newer developments which are just too plain, and, well... What's the word. Gah. Uniform?
