Bit breezy. Not the end of the world, though, if the wings scrape on the ground a bit. Are quite robust.

Although the pilot landed safely in the end after taking off again, I don't think he should have attempted to land in these conditions.

Sorry to be pick, but technical he didn't land. He aborted an did a go around.

The AC was still well within the limits

Because this is a commercial airline, they like procedures, this is a german airline, the germans like procedures.
The pilot would not have attempted finals otherwise. Looked very gusty rather than just a high wind and a gust of wind at the wrong time resulted in the go around.

Without knowing the details (how much fuel, how correct the weather details were) what do you expect a plane to do?

They had enough fuel for a go around anyway since they didn't land so the question is why were they trying in such marginal conditions and if it was that horrendous surely a divert to different airport was an option. None of the articles show if he landed normally later?

An A320 probably flying a european shuttle route probably had enough fuel on it to turn around and fly back to wherever it had just come from.
