"It will allow single mothers to ask police whether a named individual - such as a carer or new partner - has child sex convictions."

Will it enable a single parent father to check out a female partner to see is she has any record? So often these things are reported by the media and Govt. officials in a manner which implies it's only males we need to worry about. Anyone would think females were all saints......

I see the number of single mother, staying single going up as a result of this

Well I don't see why, Either they check and find out they are fine, or they are not, in which case it's right she stays single.

That said it's properly not a good idea

Where would this data be obtained and who controls it?

Don't forget this data could have mistakes, imagine if you where marked as a paedo, or even worse a paedo being missed of the list all together

How does that work? Do you have a record for sex crimes? I dont..

I have a 100% crime free record, and the paperwork to prove it

What I was meaning there will be many men not wanting to have any checks done on them.

I would suggest those wth a record of sexual abuse/violence... No loss to the dating scene then. Most women wouldnt want to do a search anyway, Googling/Facebooking a potential partner is about as far as they would go

Also a tiny percentage so unlikely to have any impact on the number of single parents

Hi Homr, l agree with your comments, l would also say that, to me, if you haven't commited anything wrong, then why worry.

Its like going for a job interview, they have to check you out, l do believe however, that parents with children. should be allowed to now if there is something in your area, which might cause you distress, like a freephone number, where you can place your postcode etc.:)

I'd imagine it's from the PNC (Police National Computer for those who are no good at acronyms) so it's pretty much up to date and correct.

The easiest way to control it would be having the current disclosure people running the show for any checks on specific crimes.

What stops someone from phoning up with a list of everyone on their street?

Neither do most, but I like most men would be highly insulted at a potential partner doing a sex crime check on me, they would be history.

and this is just unbelievable ;

Family members or neighbours who regularly look after children could also be checked under the new proposals.
What a great way to start family arguments. The world is just going mad.

Since when can you speak for most men? I dont think most reasonable mature men would be insulted about a woman putting her child first - which is what we are talking about.

A parent taking measures to ensure she/he doesnt expose her child to someone dangerous.
