Lib Dems Give It To You Straight

Quote:

A Liberal Democrat MP has defended himself after swearing during a Westminster Hall debate.

Greg Mulholland called health minister Ivan Lewis an "********" for not letting him intervene in a discussion on hospice funding, then stormed out.

Mr Lewis later said such language sent a "terrible message to young people".

Nonsense, Mr. Lewis, if New Labour ministers were called ********* more often British politics would be a lot healthier.

It's nice to see someone prominent using Anglo Saxon.Too many of our old languages and dialects are in danger of dying out..;)

My local MP - last time I saw him, he was talking to 6th formers at my son's school; no profanities there (well, not from him).

He is a bit slimey(imho)

Too right. Too often do I see a 'z' where an 's' should be. An example would be somewhere today I read something where the word 'realise' had a 'z' in it (on an English site, not an American one I might add). Drives me crazy (see, a 'z' where a 'z' should be!) all the times I see it.

Read Bill Bryson's Short History of Nearly Everything - he discovers that a lot of US spellings are the original, taken over from Britain, and that in a lot of cases it is the the UK English that has evolved/changed.

Bleedin foreigners, going over there, keeping our language...........

Tchhhh!

Yes, it has - but it has also kept a lot of the original 18th and 19th Century original English words and spellings.

bit confused with that article - in one part they've shown the word, and then in the next bit it's starred out.

Charming, like Prescott assualting someone, this is not the behaviour Right Honourable gentlemen should be demonstrating.
If he has such disrespect for parliment, then perhaps he should re-assess his career choice.

On the other hand it is comforting to think that a politician can get passionate about something enough to lose their temper.Too many come across as following the party line and presenting the best face/spin on issues that you wonder how much commitment they have to the public as opposed to their career.:erm:

If all he can do when he gets passionate is swear, then there's no benefit.

Does a member who is speaking have to give way to others in parliment?

Seems to me that it's a matter of politeness rather than a rule...but with the HoC it's hard to know what the rules are as an outsider.
