Then again, it is Zimbabwe, and being arrested there isn't exactly proof of guilt (It isn't in the UK, after all, where we have a functioning independent justice system). Nasty chap though, really unpleasant. I'd have thought him and Mugabe would get on like a slum on fire.

Given the nature of the crime, it's something that is almost certainly overlooked in Mugabe's circle, who presumably don't use the local currency much, because it's worthless. Nasty Nick may be guilty of nothing more than not paying his 'dues'. Must be losing his touch, surely a bit of bribery's well within his capacity.

Exactly, van H isn't likely to let human rights considerations get in the way of business. He's smart and cynical enough to know that doing business as a white Brit in a corrupt racist dictatorship like Zimbabwe is going to require a few palms greased and judicious botty-licking, particularly if he wants a blind eye turned to his business practices.

I suspect he got on the wrong side of someone powerful, rather than being done for any actual crime.

I rather like this description of him which is a rather colourful if apt one.

Quote:

During one of his many court appearances a judge described the tycoon as a "self-styled emissary of Beelzebub".

I was thinking the same

Given his track record I don't think there'll be too many people worrying about his human rights...
