Powering ST box down

Is it possible and safe to disconnect boxes when not in use? I have both a V+ and realise that it wont record whilst disconnected and a normal ST box. Im very concerned, in this day and age, at just how much energy is wasted throughout the country by leaving these constantly on standby.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I suppose someone will be answering telling you how good you are for lowering your carbon footprint?

NO, the V+ box aint exactly the most eco friendly box unfortunately, but what can you do, either leave it on and pay extra for electric, or turn it off when not in use, which could bring up another matter of excess strain, wear & tear on the hard drive, me myself never have the V+ turned off, unless there is a power outage or the room is getting changed around, so basically its a moral thing, do what you feel is best! :)
