BT Broadband Questions

My girlfriend is on BT ADSL package, and is having some issues with her connection. On looking on the settings of her BT Homehub, the username is configured to bthomehub@btbroadband.com and the password isn't set.

When I was on DSL - the username / pass combination was important, is this no longer the case of BT Broadband. I'm looking to do a hard reset on the homehub, as we're suffering issues with the DHCP server.

According to http://www.frequencycast.co.uk/homehub.html

The Home Hub is set for DHCP, and BT Total Broadband doesn't require a username or password to log on (as they use your phone number to authenticate)
Seems like a much simpler way than using passwords, which kinda detracts from the seemless "always on" broadband experience.

Cheers for that.

We're seeing issues with the DHCP server within the homehub. Basically, if a laptop disconnects it'll be given a new ip on re-connection, but the old IP is still reserved. The homehub then tells us the laptop is connected twice, but not at all working.

The homehub has also been showing other stange symptoms. Basically, I want to reset to defualts and set it up properly myself - the person who did the install really didn't do a good job.

I'm just not overly formilar with this particular router.

Re: BT Broadband Questions

Ive never had the chance to play with one of these hubs so I wish I could be a little more helpful.

I would recheck the TCP/IP settings in network connections on the laptop tho, just to make sure.
Is Obtain Ip address Automatically ticked for example.

There are pages around that deal with re-setting the router but it looks a little tricky, and the way I see it, some internet connection (even if it is a bit flakey) is better than a dead connection!

I'm not sure how much BT might charge to send an engineer round, or maybe you could just complain the router dosnt work and get them to send a brand spanking new one to start all over with.

Kind regards.
