Clashing overlaps
Hello
Scenario - I am recording one programme immediately after another on the same channel and I have 5 minutes padding set up. I am also recording another programme which overlaps both these. What will happen to the padding - on the face of it, there is a clash because the paddings overlap and that means it is trying to record three things? |
Re: Clashing overlaps
I think it has 3 turners so it will start recording on the 3rd one and when the 2nd tuner is done it will stop recording....But im just guessing
|
Re: Clashing overlaps
If you are recording all 3 I guess you are out and not watching anything so it will just record all three.
If you at home and using it then you are on record 2 and watch another - then I have no idea. |
Re: Clashing overlaps
It will record all three but drop ALL padding, both at the start and end of all programs.

Re: Clashing overlaps
Won't there be padding at the end of the third programme though?

Well, from what Ive been told, if the Box is in Standby, then it can record three programs at once with padding (because the padding overlaps), whereas if you are watching something, it will only record 2 with padding. If you have 3 programs set to record, and your using the box, the padding will be removed from ALL recordings, begining and end, even though, come the end of Program one, there is only 2 tuners in use. |
Re: Clashing overlaps
My V+ box seems to work differently to everyone elses!
BBC1 recording, is using tuner 1 and will add 2 minutes of padding. Then i want to record the next channel again on BBC1 so will use tuner 2 as tuner 1 is still recording the padding for the first program. If i wanted to record something else on a different channel at the same time i would have to wait until the padding on the first program has finished. The third tuner is only used for playback, or as said before you can use the manual recording to set the exact time of the recordings |
Re: Clashing overlaps
So if I put my box into standby then I can record three programs at once and not have the problem of a program clash?

Re: Clashing overlaps
Anyone would have thought that if you have 2 consecutive programs recording on the same channel that the V+ box would regognise this and just extend the first program until the end of the second program, or is this far too complicated for the V+ box AND software developers?

Re: Clashing overlaps
You mean remove the padding from the end of the first and the begining of the second? I wouldnt want to have one recording contain two programs. What of you wanna put it on a DVD? watching the second program means you have to FF through the first? Or enter the Minute the second starts. Too much hassle... what happens now is good, It just needs clarrifying.
ONE option is to put a message on the pop-up, when there is clashes, stating, "If you turn your box in stand-by, you can record all these programs. If not, the programs may clash and may not record, or the padding feature will be removed." It would seem there is a grey area now, but there ARE three red lights on that box. And they lit up for me over christmas. I didnt manually record either. Series Links and planned recordings. |

Are you no longer saying that you have recorded three programs concurrently while in Standby? I still intend to test this out but simply haven't got round to it yet. As you have to set up the recordings while not in Standby, I think the third recording you set up would show a clash. It could be possible, however, that the V+ would re-think and resolve the clash when in Standby, knowing that it doesn't need a tuner for Live TV. (.....but I doubt it?!) |
