Look Who's Back

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7175302.stm

Quote:

Gordon Brown has appointed the chief executive of one of the city's best known communication companies to be his most senior special advisor.

Stephen Carter, group chief executive of Brunswick Group LLP, will be the prime minister's chief of strategy and principal advisor in Downing Street.
Gosh, I remember him when he was head honcho of ntl. None too fondly, for that matter:

Quote:

A former colleague at NTL, who declined to be named, says Carter always preferred negotiating with industry stars rather than talking to junior members of the troubled company. "He likes talking to bigwigs like ministers, senior civil servants and industry chiefs, rather than operational staff."

This led to criticism at NTL: "He was more interested in the product than the service, he liked dealing with Sky but the reality of that business is that, as long as the televisions, phones and internet connections work, it's OK."
A man who works hard, likes mixing with the great and the good, but isn't too interested in the details. No wonder Gordon Brown picked him.

I can see the headlines now. "number 10 announces the redundancy of another 500k British citizens this week. the plans are necessary to reduce the running costs of the UK, streamline public services and it will hopefully reduce the number of complaints MP's receive from the angry worn down public by at least 25%"

"Number 10 Announces That Yorkshire Has Been Outsourced. Now to be run by the lowest bidder, Burmese Military Juntas Inc."

Well going from past experience the people at the top will get big pay rises and bonuses while the general workers will get not very much.

Hang on a sec...

No you can't, they hate each other. Suggestions are that Gordon is a bit uncomfortable around, hem, the pinker tendencies of the Party* (that old Church of Scotland upbringing, perhaps).

* Particularly those close to Tony Blair...

Feed them bush
Unfortunate typo there

Anyway well worth pulling out out the nub of the article

"Stephen Carter was asked "how can you... persuade investors to believe that NTL is going to be OK when you know it isn't?"

He allegedly replied: "What I tell them is nine-tenths bullshit and one-tenth selected facts

Him and Gordon should get along just fine !!!
