Netgear FS605 UK & NTL?

Just been sold a FS605 in PC World after telling the sales guy I wanted it to connect my 2x PCs & IP Phone to NTL. I did not want a Wireless Router but a wired one. He told me to get this Netgear one or a Belkin one, I have had issues with Belkin in the past so went for Netgear.

Disconected old Linksys router (was not working 100%) & booted up the Netgear FS605 http://www.netgear.co.uk/network_switch_fs605.php No internet al all (IP Phone worked ok)

I've just unplugged it all & connected the NTL modem to my PC & looked up this forum & it said that because its a switch it wont work? If this is right I'll have to go back to PC World & return item :( oh Joy :dozey:

Anyone care to comment? Will this work on my NTL?

Nope you've been sold a dud, whoever told you that was the right thing to buy needs the sack, you want a router, not a switch

So is the GS605 the same? its listed under Routers on PC World site.

Wht Router should I get? Only need 4 ports wired.

That's just the gigabit version of that switch. To be honest, for the price difference between a Wired and Wireless router, you might as well have the Wireless and turn it off just in case.

can u recomend one that I can turn off then? I had one on eBuyer years ago & no option to disable Wireless broadcast. I dont want wireless for health reasons & security (PCs are on desk by Modem & no Wireless laptops)

Do you own one? I needed to know 100% sure I can disable Wireless Broadcast.

Cheers

I am sure all wireless routers give you the option to turn off wireless broadcast through the settings.

Here's the Wireless part of the Control Panel of the router in the office which is the ADSL Modem Router equivalent of the one I linked you

Attachment 15677
