Re: Future parking rules 'could cause chaos'
Our local council introduced parking attendants ONLY  they said in the town centre. Within weeks they had realised how much money they were getting in fines and then sent them out to do anyone anywhere which includes housing estates and shopping centre car parks.
Its that lucrative for them that they are building an extra data centre for this and the soon to be chargeable bin system plus they are recruiting more staff to deal with the influx of money,Which means they intend to keep the ripoff going for as long has we have stupid people who vote for the buggers. The same loony lib council wants to change bins to once fortnightly, Will fine you if you bin is 1 cm open on bin day. And the same councillors have just given themselves a 10% pay rise but have held there staff at 2% So you can be assured that they will be jumping on this as an extra increase in income and more ways to rip off the motorist and fund there payrises. :) At the end of the day its yet another way to rip us off and extract as much money and tax out of us by any means they have. |
Re: Future parking rules 'could cause chaos'
My opinions are divided on this - I have genuine sympathy for those who get ticketed for being 1 minute late or parking 3" over the white lines but far too. I also believe the increasing use of more complicated road signage in places like Croydon (including part time restrictions) takes so long for drivers to comprehend that many are just plain confused into making mistakes and having to pay up.
It's equally true however that far too many drivers simply take the mick when it comes to parking, selfishly causing inconvenience and/or even danger to others. Take a few minutes to observe virtually any high street and see how long it is before some lazy idiot double parks, mounts the pavement or stops where they shouldn't and disappears off to the shops without a second thought. All too often it's pure laziness but these people then spend the rest of their lives whineing about how they got fined. Well nobody made them park illegally! |

A Motorist is a criminal. So what's the problem.:(

Re: Future parking rules 'could cause chaos'
The point about the wealthy being able to easily absorb the costs and therefore being able to park virtually with impunity is a good one - that's where clamping/towing is more of a deterrent.
As for being confused - well someone has the difficult job of drawing the line somewhere between those diligent/considerate motorists who genuinely get confused through no real fault of their own and those who simply couldn't care less about anyone/anything and operate on the basis that ignorance should be a defence. |

That is an easy mistake, but I can think of a few examples of mere lazyness. Our local high street has at least 4 car parks within 100 metres. The banks (and therefore the ATMS) are all in one part of the high street, and there is a bus stop there. The Buses frequently have to stop some way back from the stop, or even in the road (which blocks everyone else) because the area where the bus is supposed to stop is clogged with the cars of people who want to use the ATMs and can't be bothered to walk from the car parks. |
Re: Future parking rules 'could cause chaos'
I believe the new rules on parking, is going to cause a lot more road rage, and aggro towards traffic enforcement officers, l think that they will have more power gone to there head, ALL councils have gone barking mad, they don't realise, parking bays were designed long before the pen pushers of the councils decided on this stupid new rules, remember 'large cars' for example wont be able to pay properly due to another car double parking, therefore who gets the ticket, and remember, the government has to pass a law to clarify about the ticket being sent out to the victim, as as, far as l know the law states ' the ticket must be placed on the windscreen, before it is legal, l am a labour voter, and becuase of the decision of the government, l won't vote for labour again, this rule is totally wrong and is being ordered by them. If anyone gets a ticket, check it thoroughly, and if nessersary, appeal against it,

Re: Future parking rules 'could cause chaos'
Hi LSainsbury, l wish you luck on the ticket, did you know that 90% of the public, do not check tickets, and sometimes take it from the warden (bit stupid that), l used to be a wheel clamper, l did it for a month, that was enough for me, some people are scared to appeal on tickets, but l would say that 60% are successful, that is why, l say check the ticket, and you should not get abuse on this forum, that is not right.;)
