Uploading Web site to VirginMedia (Ntl)

Since shortly before Christmas I have been experiencing problems with uploading files to my (free) Ntl website. (Prior to that I had no problems).
The problem occurs whether I use Terrapin FTP or whether I use Serif WebPlus 10 (where I create and amend my website).
I am on 20Mb upload - not that it ever approaches that speed.
The problem seems to be that Terrapin/WebPlus loses contact with the server intermittently - maybe only for a second at a time - which causes files to fail to upload altogether or to upload in a distorted fashion (noticed in graphics especially). If I upload a batch of files some will be OK and some will be distorted or missing. If I then upload the SAME batch of files the files which fail to upload or are distorted are not necessarily the same ones! What can be OK one time will fail the next etc. This makes uploading a whole page to the website a nightmare!
Has anyone else experienced this? It would help me in finding the cause if I knew whether it was just me or is a general complaint.

I have tried other things to pinpoint the problem. Uploading from another PC incurs the same problems. By-passing my router - same problems.
HOWEVER if I upload photos to Photobox I have NO problems - which means my modem and cable are OK. It looks as if it is my VirginMedia webspace which is at fault. Is it possible to de-frag this webspace? Has this been a problem for anyone else?

Defragging a web server would require that the entire thing be taken offline for a few hours while it's done. It doesn't sound like the kind of thing VM would so.

Also, your upload speed is meant to be a lot lower than your download speed.

These servers being Linux based will probably be EXTFS/EXT2FS/EXT3FS or a related Journalling FS which doesn't really fragment.

Re: Uploading Web site to VirginMedia (Ntl)

I know uploads are much slower than downloads - it was my error to say I had 20Mbps Upload - I meant DOWNload.
My original problem remains. I have great problems updating to my webspace, but can quite easily upload the same photos to Photobox.
As I mentioned before, this problem only started about a month ago. Uploading to my webspace was perfect before that.
I can only assume that something is amiss with the webspace.
