Format then cant upload !
 

Hi all, please help me.
I have had to do a format, now after I have installed my programs again, I just can't get "Terrapin" to connect so I can't work on my website !

All I get is this message: " Cannot Find Server - Check the Address and Retry "

Have you any ideas what I'm doing wrong ?

At the mo I'm using these >

FTP upload address: upload.ntlworld.com
User name: your ntl internet username, xxxxxxxxx
Password: your ntl internet password, xxxxxxxx

Check and recheck the username and password. One slight typo could be the issue.

May also be worth trying a different ftp client just in case.

Do you have a firewall running that is blocking the ftp access?

Hi Rob, I think it just might be either my un or pw ! not sure,
I let my firewall give access,

Can you recommend one please ?

If I remember rightly the 1st time I set up Terrapin I had bother with it but got it sorted in the end, It's just I have a choice of 2 user names & 2 passwords, the 1st one is what ntl gave me when I joined up, & the 2nd one is where I changed it ! so I think it's just a question which one I have to use.

normally it is the account that NTL have given you which is for your email and ftp access.

Just had another go and it's trying !!

I get this up now:


The Server is refusing a connection. Attempts so far 15
The following message was provided, I'll Keep trying

Right in front of the above message is big red !

Try to ftp using the following format within internet explorer

ftp://username:password@upload.ntlworld.com

Thanks but again it's a no go all I get is this message:

Windows cannot access this folder. Make sure you have typed the file name correctly and that you have permission to access the folder.

The FTP session was terminated

The user name is going to be your original account details, not any changed email account. It should be similar to the webspace name you actually have. I presume you can still browse normally to the webspace.

As for ftp clients, I quite like smartftp.

Your connecting to the server, but the authentication is failing. It doesn't recongnise your password, or username, or both.

Have you tried working through the steps in this article:

If you have, and still can't get in you may need to call support, to check your username and passwords are actually matching your webspace.

Now thanks Rob I have just followed your instructions & according to them my web space is CORRUPTED ! :Yikes:
I have no idea how that happened ! so now do I contact ntl support & if so do you know the number ?

Oh dear, I hope you have a backup copy of your web stuff.

YOu have to call the 0845 type broadband support number. It may take a couple of days since they will have to reset the space, and that probably isn't a first line support function.

Yes I have a backup rob, so I'll be ok there, it's just calling the support.... I can hardly understand those people over seas ;)
Not to worry though at least I now know whats wrong :)
