Wireless broadband on laptop?
I am currently using a USB cable modem on my desktop computer on VM broadband and i'm thinking of getting a laptop soon. I was wondering which was the best way to setup internet on it, if i go wireless what do i have to buy or do Virgin Media provide the equipment? Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: Wireless broadband on laptop?
You need a wireless router. Your desktop computer will need to be plugged in with an Ethernet cable to the router. Also the router will need to be plugged into the modem via Ethernet. Your modem does have an Ethernet port right? The laptop should have wireless built in nowadays so that should be fine. :)
I'd recommend a Linksys WRT54G router. :tu: |
Re: Wireless broadband on laptop?
I forget to put that i may not keep the desktop computer (it's quite old) so i won't need the broadband for that, do i still need to use ethernet?

I think you'll still need an Ethernet cable to setup the router, but after it's all setup it should be fine.

Re: Wireless broadband on laptop?
it all depends on if wifi is on by default if it is you can access the router unsecured via the laptop. If worst come to the worst just plug the router into the laptop as its mobile it wont matter
