Wireless advice/help please
Hi
I am not very technically minded and would appriciate some advice. I have my desktop pc (Windows XP pro) and a Toshiba Sattelite laptop(Windows XP home) I have Virgin Media Broadband with 100 (silver box) modem, up to 2mg broadband speed. I am thinking of connecting my desktop and laptop wirelessly. At present, I disconnect my desktop from the modem and then connect my laptop via the ethernet cable. My laptop does not have a Wireless enabled network card so I think I would need a USB adaptor. Does my desktop pc need to have a network card other than the ethernet one that currently connects my pc to my cable modem? Any help/advice would be much appreciated. Thank you Church Mouse |
Re: Wireless advice/help please
You will need a wireless router obviously. ;)
If you want to connect the desktop wirelessly then you'll also need a USB adaptor or PCI NIC for that. If you're happy to continue connecting the desktop with a cable then the wireless router will have ethernet ports that you can plug a CAT5e cable into. |
Re: Wireless advice/help please
Thank you
I am happy to connect my desktop to my cable modem with a cable (as is now), so if I buy a router with a usb adaptor for my laptop, am I correct in assuming, from your reply, that I would just need to buy a Wireless router with a USB adaptor for the laptop and CAT 5e cable No need to buy a PCI NIC for my desktop? Thank you for your help Church Mouse |
