Cool Edit Pro

Anyone here use it? I'm having trouble with the record feature, basically I'm trying to record the audio of a video clip I'm playing but CEP isn't picking it up - it's just dead air. I know I need to set my sound card to be the default 'record-from' device but how do I do it?

If it's v2 onwards then you can bring a whole video clip into CEP, then work directly on the audio track.

Yep - used CEP for a few years (as already said by Zing) it was purchased by Adobe about a year ago.

There's a couple way to do this - as already said - you can bring the entire video into CEP / AA and extract the audio from there.

Or you could use a audio extraction utility to get a wav then bring it into CEP / AA...

Or - a very dirty way - make a small cable with two 3.5mm plugs - plug one into the audio out and one into audio in - effectively making a hardware loopback.

Then you just play the video and capture the incoming audio - making sure you setup the correct output / input ports - mind the levels though but depending on the audio adapter you may not be able to play / record at the same time.

Also - think this is done from Windows Control Panel / Sounds - unless CEP / AA can override those settings.

One way round it is to double click your windows speaker icon in the tray and bring up the mixer.
Then load up the recording channels by going to options, properties, and Recording.
Make sure Wave out mix is selected.
Then try recording.
You have to mess around with the volume controls though to get it the right level.
