Referee's How Pathetic They Are

I start this thread purely on the basis, that l feel that referee's of today are inconsistence of there decisions, and how the Premiership and Championship is being ruined by the men in black and want to make a name for themself, over recent years we have seen referees blatantly disallow goals that have been clearly over the line and the linesman have said they did not see it, we have seen total bias from referee's towards certain clubs, and within the past twenty four hours we have two players sent off, for silly fouls whereas balant fouls have gone unpunished, trouble is referee's today are run by a company not the FA.:mad::mad::mad::mad:

Let's get rid of all the officials and see what happens. I don't believe that any referee deliberately makes a bad decision, they have fractions of a second to decide on an incident.
They are under so much pressure that it's no wonder that there is now a shortage of officials at the lower levels, it's at a stage now where games are postponed because there isn't a referee available.

I think the referees do a good job, they are under so much pressure to perform every match and if they make just one small mistake they are criticised. They are human, they cannot see everything, they have to go on their instincts and have to make big decisions in seconds only seeing what happened once whereas we see the incident a good few times before we make our minds up. They are never going to be perfect and it's just part of the game.

Totally agree, the view that refs are poor usually comes from an armchair football fan who has the benefit of close up camera work. How many times have you been to a match and actually thought "i dont know if it was offside or not" yes i know what the crowd says but thats not a guide as it only takes one fan to say it was or wasnt of side for the view to spread like wildfire.

Re: Referee's How Pathetic They Are

April 1997, when Chesterfield reached the semi-final of the FA Cup, losing to Middlesbrough in a replay following a 3-3 draw at Old Trafford. It turned out to be one of the most controversial games in recent history with Chesterfield having a goal disallowed when referee David Elleray decided the ball had not crossed the goal line from a Jonathan Howard shot, a decision which was later proved incorrect by video replays.
Had the goal stood the club would have progressed to the final of the FA Cup for the first time in its history.

David Ellery also awarded a penalty to Middlesborough during the game, it most certainly was not a penalty.

This was poor refereeing and it still makes me wonder if it was done to prevent a 2nd division club playing in the final.

It's a good example, a good example of how difficult it is to make decisions in matches, it took a few replays for people to see in each case the ref had made the wrong decision, something he didn't have to make his decision. It's part of the game and is one of the aspects of the game which makes it enjoyable to watch in my opinion.
