My Remotes got a Ghost in it...
It hasnt, really.
When if faces the TV, it does weird things, like brings up the menu, clock or changes channel, even though no one is touching it. It has been dropped, and sounds like a mini rattle now, if you shake it (or just pick it up for that matter) and the unfortunate thing is its one without screws so I cant open it and have a look, without it not going back together. A replacement wil cost about £15, and I need it to change the channels to AV to go on the computer etc. So, should I attempt to get into it, remove the rattling (I was thinking it could be metal touching two metal points?) then glue it back together with wood glue or something? lol |
Re: My Remotes got a Ghost in it...
You would be better off just ringing VM and saying your remote had stopped working, they will send you a new one with a envelope to send your old one back in, if it can't stand a few drops, it's not fit for purpose!

Do you have energy-saving bulbs in your living room? Apparently they can interfere with some makes of remote.

Re: My Remotes got a Ghost in it...
You could try fixing it yourself, then if that fails get down to Argos (other high street stores are available) and buy on of those one-4-all remotes to replace it.

You DO have to program it to do so first...

Re: My Remotes got a Ghost in it...
It was ages before I found the Sky remote could bring up the av menu on our tv...
turns out its mapped to the help button i think it was when in "tv" mode Of course if you want a decent remote the logitech harmony is quite good I picked my 525 up for £26 + postage but that was when ebuyer where doing the £10 google checkout offer, and it was on special offer anyway. Even does the xbox360 :Yikes: |
Re: My Remotes got a Ghost in it...
Ring them and say its stopped working.
Also I broke my sky remote once sort of my fault, smacked it against the desk and the sensor went all funny, So I sneakily swapped it with my sisters sky remote:D |

Ive been on about getting one for about 12 Months. Im just a little unsure if I will be able to function the V+ fully with it. (IE The V+ button, Play/Pause, RW etc) |

So even if theres not a button on the remote dedicated to doing it I find there's not much that it doesn't do although sometimes not as easily as the original remote.. That said at least we can still use the dvd-recorder thanks to the harmony (my house mate managed to lose the dvd-recorder remote, probably in the sofa somewhere becuase its one of those thin ones) |
Re: My Remotes got a Ghost in it...
Normally, you can carefully prise the remote open. They are not normally glued, but clipped together. Try inserting a very thin screwdriver in the crack and easing the sides apart gently. You might need two or three screwdrivers but you can usually release the clips this way

Re: My Remotes got a Ghost in it...
That worked. There was 6 clip like things keeping it in place.
Ive cracked the IR cover a bit, but Im not really bothered about that. The two pieces causing the rattle were plastic, and now the remote is getting worse at changing channels and showing the menu. I did begin to think it was the TV doing it, and not the remote, but it stops when I take the batteries out of the remote, so that is the culprit. |
