netgear problem

Hi trying to sort a problem out for a m8 and came across this.

netgear router, main pc connected to LAN 1 socket, wireless connections to laptop, and media centre pc.

router is reporting only 2 ip address the media centre and laptop?

main pc is connecting to router and browsing homepage but the router is saying that it isnt there, so windows is saying cant find network path when trying to add network place for pc to latop or media centre.

router address is 192.168.1.1
main pc is 192.168.1.2
laptop is 192.168.1.3
media centre is 192.168.1.4

both mac address's are showing for laptop and media pc

TIA

Re: netgear problem

Are you using fixes IPs? If not, I'm puzzled, as otherwise the main PC must be seen by the router as it's been issued with an IP...

If you are using fixed IPs, try setting things up with DHCP.

What model router is it?

Are you looking in the correct place, e.g. Attached Devices, where all PCs assigned an IP address are displayed?

Maybe you're looking at a screen that just shows wireless PCs which are linked?

Re: netgear problem

I believe that there is an option to select an IP range.

Check the different kit to see if it has been given a IP address or it gets if from the DHCP

---------- Post added at 19:18 ---------- Previous post was at 19:12 ----------

On my Netgear is an option "LAN IP Setup"

Use Router as DHCP Server (Checked)

Starting IP Address 192.x.2.1
Ending IP Address 192.x.2.254

Re: netgear problem

sorry guys i cant remember which model it is although it is the netgear one with the 3 aerials on as its a high output power one.

i understand what your saying and i am looking in the right place, for attached devices and i know it should be there!

as regards the lan ip address range i tried that also.

i didnt try telling my m8 to take the damn thing back, i think that might be the solution.

Re: netgear problem

Have you used the "Copy your PC's MAC address" option in the router set up?

If you have, then the router doesn't show the computer you have cloned.

From your description, you have a DIR-655; I have just bought one and it's excellent

Just to try... see if it works when connected to LAN2, 3 or 4 ports... It may be a faulty ethernet port.
