Broadband slower than dial-up!
Hi all. Have been suffering slow speed on broadband for the last few days, 24/7, not just at peak times. Max i get is about 20KBs on a 4MB service. 5 calls to Tech later, still no further forward, though they have now actually sussed that it is def a problem at their end rather than mine (no problem with modem or connection, and doesn't just happen at peak times, so not down to load)!
Now waiting on a call back, finally got someone helpful who is calling second line to find out more. Speed test:- Mon, 19 Nov 2007 18:05:08 UTC Test 1: 1024K took 51515 ms = 19.9 KB/sec, approx 164 Kbps, 0.16 Mbps Test 2: 1024K took 50656 ms = 20.2 KB/sec, approx 166 Kbps, 0.16 Mbps Test 3: 1024K took 51204 ms = 20 KB/sec, approx 165 Kbps, 0.16 Mbps Test 4: 2048K took 103015 ms = 19.9 KB/sec, approx 164 Kbps, 0.16 Mbps Overall Average Speed = approx 165 Kbps, 0.16 Mbps If i get no joy there, any ideas what i do next? Thanks. |
Re: Broadband slower than dial-up!
Well you could post your signal levels....if you use a router you could try a direct to modem connection to test for any router related issues. have you made any changes to your firewall or AV lately?

Just found out the frequency is incorrect, even though i was told yesterday by tech that it was ok!(339MHz, should be 331), tried to set it to 331 in modem config page, but it just reverted back to 339, would cause some packet loss. Signal to noise ratio is 41db. Tech are now sending an engineer, reckon it could be a problem between modem and local box? |
Re: Broadband slower than dial-up!
Let's hope the engineer can help.
