Dvd recorder LG RH188SRegion playback?

Hi all.:)
Got a bit of a problem with my LG RH188S Dvd recorder at the moment that i`m hoping you can help with.
Last week i fiddled with the settings after a few beers, as you do:rolleyes:, and now, most of my dvds won`t play back. I`ve reset the player to factory settings and it still won`t work. I`ve changed the region code to G.B for United Kingdom but nothing seems to help. I still keep getting the message." Incompatible region code, cannot play disc". Can anybody help me put my stupidity right before the wife kills me.:dunce:
Thanks.

Does this help you at all?

It's the multi-region hack for the RH188H but assuming it works on yours it should unlock your player from all region constraints.

you could perhaps try looking for software that will copy the original DVD to a 'region free' version - as you possess the original copy I don't see this as a copyright problem, per se, but I won't provide any links - but look for e.g. DVDFab - it ain't free, though ;)

Go to this site: http://lgregionfree.tripod.com/2005/menu1.htm

- Click on the 5000 DVD Player and download the zip file "5000.zip"

- Unzip the folders and files to the hard drive in exactly the same order as they are in the zip.

- Burn the folder "RMTM0000" (including sub files and/or folders) to a blank CDR, naming the CDR "CODEFREE"

- Make sure you record the disc as Disk At Once (DAO) and as a closed (once only) session.

- Make sure you burn the disc in Joliet mode (not ISO)

- Insert the disc into the player (with the player in DVD mode, and Input set to "AV1"). It won't play, but the disc icon in the left hand upper corner will read "DATA". Next, press the "Home" key on the remote. Scroll to the Movie icon, then down to disc. Hit the "Enter" key on the remote. After about 10 seconds, a Region Select menu will come up. Press "0" on the remote for multi-region. The screen will go back to normal and you should be able to play any region.

This means no more 'incorrect region code" messages...

Or, if that fails -

1 Press 'SETUP'
2 Scroll down to LOCK
3 Press '0' seven times
A message that confirms that the player is region free will appear on the screen!

same result...

Cheers for that mate but the Tripod page no longer exists and the remote thing does not work either.
