VirginMedia Reviewing STM!

Snippet from New Media Market 14/11/2007:

Quote:

Virgin Media's new strategy to focus on delivering broadband of higher quality at faster speeds has prompted a review of the controversial speed capping that was introduced earlier this year and a delay in launching IPTV. The so-called "throttling" of particularly heavy users - which affects five per cent of...

New Media Market is subscription based I think so no link would be useful :(

If anything, my connection has performed far worse since the throttling came into play!

Cant post anymore as it would be against rules but what i can say is.

The review is based on the fact they might remove STM completely as they have found users want to use top tier packages for high bandwith p2p/networking (DUH!).

Only mentions removing it on the top tier though, and talks about the 50mbit and 100mbit packages coming 2nd Quarter 2008.

What's so funny? it would be through docsis3 using bonded frequencies, it would be less stressful on the network than curently having 20mbit on docsis1.

And i told you STM wasnt here to stay...

I thought it was called Traffic Shape Management!

Traffic management
We don't like traffic jams

Here at Virgin Media, we want all our customers to get the best service possible from their broadband. That means speedy downloads for all users – not just a few.

When someone is downloading a particularly large amount of information over a long period of time, it can slow down the internet speed for other users who might just be checking their email or browsing online. So to make sure our service is fair for everybody, we sometimes moderate the speeds during peak times (4pm till midnight) for customers who are downloading an unusually large amount at these times.

This ensures that the service doesn't get blocked up with people using more than their fair share – which means a lot fewer traffic jams on the information superhighway.

Sorry, I re-worded the above. It didn't quite make sense. Still my point stands I guess, why don't they mention the Traffic Shape Management?! :D

Hehe, because they have finally admitted they throttle the bandwith, pretty big of VM considering the amount of crap they've done just lately :p:
