pci express
guys,
do any of you think that the new PCI Ex 2.0 standard will still be compatible with say pci ex 1.1? got a GA-P35-DQ6 mobo and wanted to change my g-card over to the new ATI 3800 series as they are now released on OCuk. Thanks for advice already :) best answers will get reppies (sorry zing you got too many already) |
Re: pci express
If it's anything like USB then you might get it to run at the older spec. No idea what precisely is the situation with PCIE 1.1 and 2 though.

Re: pci express
I know...done a check on wiki 1st but that wasnt clear either..thats why I thought to check here perhaps some1 knows if it works or not

Re: pci express
It will be compatible. Pci e 2 will just increase the bandwidth and power to pci e 2 gfx cards. A few of the x38 mobos now support pci e 2
|
Re: pci express
yep. confirmed. is backwards compatible.
|
Re: pci express
Yeah you can. You can't on 1.0 i believe though.
|
Re: pci express
actually I read pci e 2 gfx will work on pci e 1 with reduced performance
|
Re: pci express
Not all mobos support it though, from what i read.
|
Re: pci express
has any1 got a guestimate if it will work on a gigabyte P35-dq6 board as thats what I've got ;) :D cuz then i just might get the card (3870xt)....

Re: pci express
I would have said so. Keep an eye on the forums but tbh I would wait for a couple of driver revisions before you order.
I must say if them prices stay the same they are mighty cheap My machine is selling between xmas and new year(to a freemason ;)) so I may well crossfire a couple of them for that price |
Re: pci express
you git Zing.... so what ya gonna get instead now then?
|
Re: pci express
pretty much the same as what have now with an x38 mobo Q6600 and dunno what gfx yet
|
Re: pci express
well just posted a quickie question with Gigabyte and see what the answer will be... as soon as I have it I'll post here for peeps that might have the GA-P35 boards :)

Re: pci express
From what I've read so far, it would seems that it is MEANT to be backward compatible both ways, with PCI-E 2.0 card in 1.x slot, or 1.x card in 2.0 slot operating at the original speeds.
How well that will be realized in practice, is another matter! |
