A head scratcher

Twice now I've been busy working in an application (DAZ Studio) that I've been using for a couple of years now.I'm tweaking and rendering and then when I've achieved the result I want I go to save it.Only I can't find my external hard drive..Instead my G: HD drive has become my CD ROM drive.

Now that seems so random...and when I restart the PC it's back to normal.

Weird!!

Not worried yet just puzzled.

Can you still access the data on the drive on the "G:\" drive?

It may be completely unrelated, Incog, but I found recently that an update for the chipset drivers for my motherboard improved disk performance & reliability, no end.

Now while I'm not saying you should upgrade, it way be worth looking at the pros & cons if such a thing was available ??

What's where your CD used to be? Has it swapped with your USB drive?

sound to me like one of the drives not being recognised on some of your boot ups and drive letter allocation is being reorganized because of this(not sure though) next time it happens check to make sure everything that should be working is there and workign and your not missing something. I did see you mention the (to me anyway) dreaded usb hard drive

When I originally started up the PC, Drive G:\ is my Classic HD along side drive C:\ and New Volume D:\ Then when I want to save the drive has moved from the hard drive section to the Devices with removable storage section and behaves just like a CD ROM.It says that there is no Disc inserted in the CD ROM Drive when I click on it.

Perhaps the phrase removable storage is the clue?

It's never done it before and besides I'm actually using the PC.
