home network setup, wireless and NTL cable modem

It is really embarrassed....but I have to ask!
I set up a home network couple of years ago with the help from this forum, thanks a lot!
Now I want to change my aging desktop to a new one but I do not know how to do it, or, in another word, I cannot remember how I installed it before, what a shame!

Anyway, the LAN setup is:
WAN: NTL cable modem
Router: Linksys WRT54GS (802.11g)
Desktop: cabled via ethernet card
Laptop: HP something, Acer something.....

My question is should I just register MAC of new desktop to Linksys MAC list or should I reinstall NTL networking software into new PC or something else?
How abbout other wireless setup?

Thanks a lot, I know you can help me....

You should be able to just turn everything off, then Plug the ethernet cable into the new PC, boot everything up again, and away you go.
You do not need the NTL software. It just is an added thing taking up space on your system and most people do not bother with it as it is not needed.

You normally only have to register the first time you take the broadband service.

No need to turn anything off. Just plug the new PC into the router and boot it up

Does it mean all the necessary information (username, password, etc) I need to access NTL server has been saved to Linksys router? I think so....

Yes. If you can access the net fine on the other machines then all the info needed is there and you don't need to input anything.
If you do have problems, just make sure your new machine is set to automatically detect settings / direct connection to the internet, and that it is not set to dial a location, (or whatever it's called in Internet Explorer's / firefox connections page) and you should be good to go.

The only things you will have to enter are the server settings for your E-mail into your E-mail program's account settings.
These can be found here:

Slightly different ones if you are on the old NTL servers.
I think it is pop.ntlworld.com and smtp.ntlworld.com and then you'l be prompted for your password.

As simple as you guys said! Switch off everything and swap the computer. Switch on everything and that is it. Thanks a lot!

I used Zonealarm before now I have firewall from XP. Anyone knows which is better? Zonealarm or XP build-in?
